Sull'Atlantic Monthly di dicembre Nir Rosen, giornalista freelance da tempo in Iraq, confuta in maniera strutturata la tesi che il ritiro Usa dall'Iraq avrebbe conseguenze disastrose.
L'articolo è ben fatto e stimolante, mi lascia perplesso la diffusione copia-incolla che sta avendo (Moveon l'ha ripubblicato nella sua newsletter, con una qualsiasi ricerca su Technorati si trovano paginate di blog che citano Rosen in maniera elogiativa)
Gran parte della tesi di Rosen poggia su due assunzioni

Gli Jihadisti sono minoritari e usati dai resistenti
Il disegno di creare un Iraq laico e democratico è destinato comunque a fallire


Sul primo argomento non posso giudicare, sul secondo argomento forse la partecipazione alle elezioni democratiche dovrebbe far riflettere prima di restituire l'Iraq ai "resistenti"
L'effetto "domino", il segnale che in Medio Oriente non si può sperare altro che dittatura e teocrazie, non sono esaminati tra le conseguenze del ritiro.
